Thanks in advance for the time/advice:)Looking for some general info, apologies if this is a bit broad. I'm a 29 year old guy from California coming to solo with a work/holiday visa in January 2017, starting with a week or so in. I'm then planning to stay somewhere near Gold Coast for 3-4 months. Trying to understand the main differences between Burleigh/Byron's/ (and if there are other towns people might recommend?).I want to avoid what seems like the Disneyland/Margaritaville vibe of Surfer's Paradise, but am also not looking for somewhere overly sleepy. Hopefully with the opportunity to meet other travelers/locals, with good restaurants/bars and some nightlife. Won't even mention a good break or two because everywhere seems to have that.
Thank you all so much! The is the most crowded/intense surfing area in eg Superbank, Duranbah plus they hold the Pro Event there. But is also crowded and you need a to get to the surf spots.
GC has nightclubs, bars, holidaymakers, casino. BB is more laid back/alternative and smaller but still has pubs, restaurants but not high rise etc. Will you have a? Note January is our peak holiday time then after that things settle down a bit (so easier for accommodation). GC is less than one hour drive to BB so maybe arrive and check out the areas for vibe/cost of accommodation/access.
Alternatives could be Pottsville, Lennox Head.google GC and BB images to see the difference Edited: 5:30 pm, May 12, 2016. From to ) is mainly high rise, lots of urban sprawl, theme parks and shopping centres. It's not bad but it's not a humble sort of place.is in NSW, we have a very different planning history to and hence why the high rise end at the border. Is busy, always new faces passing through, nightlife there are two pubs but both with regular music. Just a bit south is Lennox Head - good for waves, too quiet in the evenings. That all said have you or would you consider?
The surf is excellent, decent night life (diverse etc), affordable and enough of a population (especially the 20 000 students) to meet plenty of people. It is the home of Surfest. Has its own airport if you want to get away to Brisbane or, hourly train direct to (about 2.5 hours away). The first 3-4 months of the year is perfect weather in Newy. The other good thing is if you get a (or mates with a ) you are within 2 hours drive of some awesome places up to or down to The Entrance Edited: 8:03 am, May 13, 2016.
I live in (2km north of Burleigh) and definitely recommend staying here!I moved from 3 years ago, have seen all the GC has to offer and would not pick another spot!If you decide on, I suggest checking out and subletting a room for long term stay.I rent an apartment in the (lovely place) and have had 17 roomies in 3 years, mostly international, as I love meeting new people! Currently have 2 outgoing Peruvian guys teaching me Spanish before I set off for South America in September!Enough about me.
Miami is great as it is a short 2km south walk/bike ride to Bureigh, where you'll spot champs like Mick Fanning out for a paddle & a beer at the local after. Burleigh has a laid back nightlife were everyone is welcome. 1km north you'll find Nobby's beach, that has had some really cool cafes, restaurants and bars pop up over the past few years & is where I spend most of my time. (Currently there right now!)Miami is also very quiet for the most part despite being to close to everything.
It has a funky with street food, rad music and arts on Wed/Fri/Sat nights. If you want to check out, it's only an hour drive south & are cheap to rent. It's a great place, but very busy with travelers at that time of year.Anyway, good luck with your travels! Feel free to email me should you wish to pick my brain! I know the perils of planning to travel places you've never been!xx [email protected].
